THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A PAST VACANCY EMMAUS HAVE APPOINTED TO.
Salary: £Competitive to attract the right applicant Location: Liverpool Contract Type: Full Time Contract Term: Fixed 2 year term in the first instance Start Date: Negotiable
Emmaus Leadership are shortly commencing the recruitment process to support an exciting initiative - a MAT partnership between the Archdiocese of Liverpool and Diocese of Shrewsbury (in close collaboration with the DfE) to recruit a CEO for a newly established Catholic MAT.
St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust is being established as a Trust to enable schools identified as needing support for more rapid school improvement and/or schools that are unable to find a MAT ‘home’ due to lack of local capacity to join. Whilst in the Trust, schools will access high levels of external school improvement support (brokered by the Trust) with a view that they will leave the trust within a c2-3 year period to return to a secure local Catholic MAT as good schools.
It is envisaged that c10 (primary and secondary) schools will become member schools of the MAT.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right leader to help transform the surrounding educational landscape and lead a national pilot which has significant DfE support. This is a high-profile role which will involve working closely with the DfE for the life of the pilot.
Whilst this post is initially fixed term, due to the pilot nature, there are exit strategies planned for academies and for the central team to ensure that their next steps are secured.
You must be a practising Catholic with the ability to articulate a clear philosophy for Catholic Education. You will have substantial experience of successful system leadership/school improvement across more than one school (Primary and/or Secondary) achieved within the Ofsted framework, leading to rapid and sustained improvement.
Now is a moment of real opportunity within the educational and Catholic life of both Dioceses which makes this post an extremely attractive and rewarding career opportunity.

"Emmaus brings a level of professionalism, seen in other industry sectors, to church schools’ recruitment."
The Rt Rev Nick Baines - Anglican Bishop of Leeds
"…we also considered other external recruiters, but Emmaus were clear favourites in terms of their recruitment expertise and in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the catholic school’s sector."
Peter Giorgio, Director of Education, Nottingham Diocese
"I have personal experience of the quality of service Emmaus provides, when I successfully applied for a Headship position through them. I always felt I could call up, get the ‘inside take’ on the school and ask any questions in complete confidence. The support and expert advice I received made the application process far less daunting and I would thoroughly recommend Emmaus to any Church School looking to appoint a key Leadership position."
Dan Pickard, Headteacher, The Bishop’s CE Primary School - Thetford
"I cannot imagine a better service to fulfil the requirement of helping a Catholic school find a Head. I was impressed with the number and high quality of candidates sourced by Emmaus Leadership."
Marjorie Bannister, Chair - St Michael's Catholic College, London
"Having previously struggled to recruit two Headteachers - for both a Primary and a Secondary school - Emmaus came to the rescue. Their expert advice and deep understanding of recruiting Headship positions in Catholic schools is invaluable, and I have no hesitation in recommending their knowhow and their values."
Fr David Gibbons, Chair of Governors & Parish Priest, Archdiocese of Southwark
"I approached Emmaus following our unsuccessful attempts to recruit Deputy DDEs for both Dioceses. They went on to source a far greater number of candidates of high calibre. I highly recommend Emmaus!"
Canon Carolyn Lewis, Director of Education - Diocese of Leicester and Diocese of Derby
"We considered TES, but the critical factor for us was that Emmaus are not only specialists in recruiting Headteachers, they are Christians focused exclusively on recruiting for Church Schools."
Canon Bob Baker, Chair of Governors,The Bishop’s CE School - Thetford
"I have no hesitation in commending Emmaus to any school which is seeking to appoint a Christian Head. My only regret is that we did not go to them for the first round of interviews that proved unsuccessful. It is an expensive option, but in the long run they are more than value for money. I am very thankful to God for the ministry of Emmaus, and I warmly commend them to you. In OFSTED terms, they are outstanding."
The Rt Rev Keith Sinclair - Anglican Bishop of Birkenhead
"Emmaus were instrumental in persuading me to apply for the post of Headteacher. I had seen the school advertising in the past but nothing inspired me to get in touch. Once Emmaus advertised I felt intrigued and keen to learn more about the school. I was supported throughout the whole process, which was a very personal and positive experience. I would highly recommend Emmaus to any school thinking of recruiting, and candidates considering registering. If my new school had not used Emmaus I probably wouldn’t have applied."
Hannah Walters, Headteacher, Platt CE Primary School - Kent
"I have no hesitation in commending Emmaus to any school that is seeking to appoint a Christian Headteacher. In particular, Emmaus’ ability to promote the school, assess the ethos of the school and communicate this within the networks of those who might be considered as possible candidates was invaluable."
Clive Purser, Chair of Governors, St Andrew's CE High School for Boys, Worthing
