Supportive, creative, life-enhancing and committed to educational excellence

where you – and our children - flourish

Holy Trinity Pewley Down School (HTPD) is a Voluntary Aided CofE school - a hard federation of Holy Trinity Junior (Ofsted Good 2018 with 384 on roll) and Pewley Down Infants (Ofsted Outstanding 2012 with 180 on roll). Located on the edge of stunning Surrey countryside, but only minutes from the facilities and history of Guildford town centre, our two school sites are set less than half a mile apart.

HTPD has a distinctive child-centred focus with an emphasis on a love of learning, underpinned by a well-developed Christian ethos and values that welcomes and seeks the best for everyone in our school community, irrespective of faith, learning needs, ethnicity or (dis)advantage (over 30% of our children speak English as an additional language). HTPD is a joyful, open school where no one gets left behind.

Governors are now seeking a new Headteacher; an inspirational leader and passionate educator with the vision and moral purpose to lead our school community onto the next stage of our journey.

Priorities for our new Headteacher will lie in four key areas:

  1. Leading the next stage in the development of our creative curriculum, embedding consistent quality and depth in all subjects, ensuring high quality CPD for all staff.

  2. Maintaining a relentless focus on the educational experience and outcomes for children who experience disadvantage – in whatever form – and ensure their voices are used to shape the school’s culture and provision.

  3. Spearheading active collaboration with other schools and working with the governing body to chart a course for a future in which academisation is a growing part of the educational landscape.

  4. Re-establishing educational provision on the infant school site - currently closed because of RAAC - bringing to life a bespoke educational and working environment.

As our next Headteacher you will be ably supported by an experienced and dedicated governing body that includes members with a wide range of professional skills. The senior leadership team is similarly committed, talented, intelligent and fun, comprising two Deputy as well as two Assistant Heads.

If, as an existing Head – or indeed a Deputy or Assistant Head looking for their first step into Headship – you believe you offer the leadership talent which inspires and motivates others towards excellence, then we would love to hear from you.

Applications are sought from both practising Christians and those committed to supporting the Christian ethos of the school.

Closing date: Monday 18 March at 12 Noon
Interviews: Tuesday 26 March

We warmly encourage you to visit HTPD to see the children and staff at work. We are all really looking forward to working with our new headteacher and ensuring you have access to the right professional and personal support to enable you to thrive. Your wellbeing is a key priority for us.

"We considered TES, but the critical factor for us was that Emmaus are not only specialists in recruiting Headteachers, they are Christians focused exclusively on recruiting for Church Schools."

Canon Bob Baker, Chair of Governors,The Bishop’s CE School - Thetford

"I have no hesitation in commending Emmaus to any school which is seeking to appoint a Christian Head. My only regret is that we did not go to them for the first round of interviews that proved unsuccessful. It is an expensive option, but in the long run they are more than value for money. I am very thankful to God for the ministry of Emmaus, and I warmly commend them to you. In OFSTED terms, they are outstanding."

The Rt Rev Keith Sinclair - Anglican Bishop of Birkenhead

"We are delighted with the appointment we made and I have reported to the whole community that we could not have been more thorough in the search or more rigorous in the selection process. Thank you Emmaus Leadership."

Jacqui Feely, Chair at All Hallows Catholic College, Macclesfield

"I’m delighted with the way it went and the successful outcome (third SLT placement now!) helps confirm to Governors that your approach is right for these levels of appointment. It’s difficult to quantify the costs of recruiting and failing to get the right candidate ourselves - we’d only find out the true cost and also lost opportunities if we tried and failed. Altogether better to invest in getting it right first time, so thank you for all your hard work on this. The other side is the perception we leave with all candidates and I think we’ve worked together to do an excellent job (using your Assessment support). The communication, logistics and the care given I think is really important and Emmaus are a big part of that - you work as an extension of the school. I am fairly sure that all of the candidates will go away having had a great experience and that will help our reputation spread in a positive way."

Dave Cobb - School Business & Development Manager, Saint Cecilia's CE School, London

"Emmaus brings a level of professionalism, seen in other industry sectors, to church schools’ recruitment."

The Rt Rev Nick Baines - Anglican Bishop of Leeds

"…we also considered other external recruiters, but Emmaus were clear favourites in terms of their recruitment expertise and in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the catholic school’s sector."

Peter Giorgio, Director of Education, Nottingham Diocese

"Could we afford it? My belief, as Chair was that we couldn’t afford not to. We needed strong school leaders to be drawn to apply. Our success was down to using Emmaus and definitely money well spent."

Carry Lynott - Chair of Governors, Our Lady and St Brendan's Catholic Primary School, Bradford

"Emmaus were instrumental in persuading me to apply for the post of Headteacher. I had seen the school advertising in the past but nothing inspired me to get in touch. Once Emmaus advertised I felt intrigued and keen to learn more about the school. I was supported throughout the whole process, which was a very personal and positive experience. I would highly recommend Emmaus to any school thinking of recruiting, and candidates considering registering. If my new school had not used Emmaus I probably wouldn’t have applied."

Hannah Walters, Headteacher, Platt CE Primary School - Kent

"I approached Emmaus following our unsuccessful attempts to recruit Deputy DDEs for both Dioceses. They went on to source a far greater number of candidates of high calibre. I highly recommend Emmaus!"

Canon Carolyn Lewis, Director of Education - Diocese of Leicester and Diocese of Derby

"We came across Emmaus by accident after our own attempts to recruit a Headteacher failed. We would not hesitate to engage them again to find a suitable candidate for a leadership position."

Michael Tennant - Chairman of the Board, St Edward's School
